Age of Players: 6 and above
Number of Players: 1 or more
Prep: some prep needed
You will need: a large transparent box or tub, water, dollar notes, towels.
How to Play:
Fill your tub or box with water; about three quarters full. Put some dollar bills in the water. Choose your volunteers and get them to come and put their feet in the water to retrieve the dollars from the big box/tub. The player with the most dollars at the end is the winner. Make sure you are careful to make the surface around the box safe so that your players don’t slip around or fall when they get in or out of the tub/box.
Variation: Play as a race with two tubs with dollars in or as a team relay with one tub per team. The team with the most dollars is the winning team.
Applications:
GREED AND STINGINESS V GENEROSITY: How much money did you grab in the ‘Dive For Dollars’ group game? Sometimes people can be like that with money, they want to grab as much as they can get because they are greedy for money. Yet God calls us to be generous with our money and not stingy, that way we will see God move as we give! (Proverbs 11:24-26, Proverbs 22:2)
GIVING/GIVING TO THE POOR/ POVERTY/POVERTY OF SPIRIT: The ‘Dive For Dollars’ group game is an extremely fun and wet game, but you can’t help thinking about money when you play it… and that makes me think of those that don’t have any! We are so blessed to have the money that we have and God asks us to watch out and help those that are less fortunate than we are. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7, Proverbs 19:17, Acts 20:35)
LOVE OF MONEY: The ‘Dive For Dollars’ group game is all about grabbing as much money as you can… which is really fun. Yet Paul in the bible reminds us not to love money but to love Jesus! (1 Timothy 6:10, Matthew 6:24)
STEWARDSHIP: The ‘Dive For Dollars’ game challenges us to think about how we use our money and if we are using our money wisely. Another word for that is to be a good steward of the things that God has given us – because all that we have comes from Him. (1 Peter 4:10, Genesis 1:28)
