Number of Players: 2 or more
You will Need: Prepare some noughts and crosses out of cardboard and make them sticky with lots of double sided sticky tape. Create the grid with some coloured duct tape. You will want to try and mark it out so that each square has an equal width. Of course, you’ll need to make sure it works by testing it out beforehand!
How to Play:
You can view the video of the game here.
Children stand in team lines as they await their turn to run. They must run up to the grid and place their nought or cross into one of the nine squares. Then they return to the team and the next player runs. The aim is for the team to get their ‘noughts’ or ‘crosses’ in a line – 3 of the same symbol horizonally, vertically or diagonally. The winning team is the team that does this first. If it becomes difficult to win then the next player can swap the position of one of their symbols.
VARIATION: For a variation of the game using bean bags and hula hoops you can view the video here. Or if you would prefer using tape and paper plates check the video of the game here.
Application:
Encouragement: Was it easy to encourage one another in this game? Did the team work together to encourage each member of the team?
Race: Just as the bible reminds us that life is like a race, so we have raced our hearts out in this game!
Perseverance: This game is all about endurance and perseverance! Well done! You persevered! And whether you won or lost you know that you ran with the aim of taking the prize.
Working Together: ‘Giant Tic Tac Toe’ is a game that works only when the team works together.
