Session Theme: Jesus: The Hero who entered the game to rescue us
Core Scriptures:
- John 10:30 – “I and the Father are one.”
- John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
- John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
BIG IDEA:
Every great story has a hero. Jesus is the true Hero of history—sent to rescue a broken world and offer eternal life to everyone who believes.
Icebreaker:
“Who’s Your Go-To?”
Ask: “If you had to choose one video game hero to save the world, who would it be and why?”
Let a few share their picks.
GAME IDEA: “Hero Showdown”
Divide the group. Each team picks a game hero and explains why their hero is the best rescuer of all time.
Then compare them to the character of Jesus. Wrap up by asking:
“Which one would you want saving your real life?”
Use these conversation starters:
Starter Questions:
- Why do you think people are drawn to hero stories—especially underdog heroes like Mario?
- In what ways does Jesus break the mold of a typical hero?
- How would you respond if someone said Jesus was just another good person?
- What do you think it means that Jesus came “into the game” to save us?
- What makes a hero “great” in your eyes?
- What stood out to you about how Jesus lived or what He did?
- Why do you think some people see Jesus as just a “good teacher” and not the Hero?
Say:
“Jesus claimed to be God and proved it through love, power, and sacrifice.
Think quietly for a moment:
If that’s true, how should it change how I see Him—and myself?”
Encourage silent thought or journaling.
SEARCH the Scriptures:
- Read John 3:16 together.
Ask:- What does this say about how God feels about the world? About you?
- Why is it important that Jesus came to save, not just teach?
SENSE How You Feel:
Say:
Jesus didn’t come for applause—He came for rescue. He didn’t quit when it got hard. He went all the way to the cross.
So If Jesus really is who He says He is, what’s stopping you from following Him/giving your whole heart to him?
Prompt them to respond:
- Write a song about what is keeping you from giving everything to Jesus. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you to give it all to him.
- Mould: using play dough or clay create something and smash it up. Ask God to help you give that thing to him.
- Draw/Paint: draw or paint Jesus coming to your rescue.
- Build: using construction bricks or blocks think of something that is keeping you from giving your all to Jesus. Build the bricks up high and then knock them down.
- Journal: write down or doodle your thoughts, prayers and questions.
SEEK God:
Give this challenge:
“Jesus is the Hero—but every hero story needs a response.”
Ask:
- Are you ready to press start and follow Him?
- If not, what questions do you still have?
Ask them to reflect on this question during the week:
“What would it look like to stop watching the story—and join it?”
Encourage them to explore the Gospels and learn more about who Jesus is.
Encourage everyone to talk to a leader if they want to go deeper or pray.
