AIM: The ‘Worldbuilding: You were made on Purpose’ Childrens Lesson on Genesis 1is aimed at children that are gamers, yet it can be used to reach those that understands the basics of gaming. It is an evangelical lesson to help children understand the basics of the gospel. This is the first lesson in a series of lessons that use the God Mode videos from Victory Gaming. This lesson can be used within a big group context, but also works well for small groups where children can discuss the concepts in a deeper way.

🧠 Core Idea:

Just like every game world is carefully designed, your life isn’t random. The Bible says God created the world and created you—with intention and meaning. You’re part of something bigger.

1. 🎲 Icebreaker: “Game Dev for a Day” (3 mins)

Prompt:

“If you could design your own game world, what would it look like? What would be in it? Spend a few minutes drawing your own world.” You can use the world building printable to go with it.

Extra game idea: Use some Minecraft magnetic blocks (you will need a few packs) to encourage children to make their own worlds. You can even encourage them to compete to make the best one and explain what and why they made it that way.

GAME IDEAS:

  1. DESIGN YOUR WORLD: You’re now a game dev team. You have 10 minutes to come up with a brand-new game world. What is the vibe? The setting? The goal? Have a few groups share. Point out how much thought they put into it. You could also encourage children to design their world with coloring pens and paper.
  2. WORLD VOLLEYBALL: Use an inflatable globe to play a game of volleyball with two teams. You can put tape on the floor to separate the two sides if you do not have a volleyball net and simply use the areas to define where the ball must fall to score a point.
  3. WORLD BASKETBALL RELAY RACE: Split your group into teams. Each team chooses someone to be a basketball net  by creating a net shape with their arms. They stand on a chair. The rest of the team starts at the opposite side of the room and is given an inflatable globe. The team players take turns to shoot the globe into the ‘net’. The winning team is the team to score the most hoops.

Say: Every great game has a world that’s been designed on purpose. It doesn’t just appear—it’s built. Just like those game worlds didn’t just appear—neither did ours. The Bible says our world was built by design, and so were we.

SPOT the Simple Meaning:

1) God = The Ultimate Game Dev (5 mins)

Say: When you load up a game like Zelda, Minecraft, or Fortnite, you enter a world that someone made. Nothing is random. The mountains, the quests, even the loading screen—someone built it. They are called a game developer. And when they build a world in a game it is called worldbuilding.

The Bible says the world we live in was made the same way—by a Creator. Not by accident, not chaos—but with purpose.

📖 Genesis 1:1 says “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

The Bible starts like this. Not with an explosion or randomness, but a Creator making a world on purpose with a plan. That’s why God is the ultimate developer. He created our entire world! And at the center of that world, God put people. Not as background characters—but as the main story. That includes you.

2) YOU ARE NOT A GLITCH (10 mins)

Say: In any open-world game—Minecraft, Elden Ring, Fortnite—someone built that space. It’s not random. There’s a creator behind the code.

Genesis 1:1 says: 📖 ‘In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.’

God’s not just some distant being floating in the sky—He’s more like the ultimate developer who cares about His world, and especially about you.”

Then check this out: 📖 Genesis 1:27 says, ‘So God created human beings in his own image.’

That means you’re not just another character in the crowd. You’re unique—made to reflect God’s creativity, personality, and love. You’re part of the storyline. It also means that you’re not here by chance. You are here on purpose.

📖 Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, ‘Why am I like this?’ This verse says you were crafted on purpose. You’re not some broken code. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

 💬 Discussion Questions (7 mins)

  1. What would it mean if you were actually created on purpose?
  2. If God made you on purpose, what do you think He made you for?

SEARCH the Scriptures:

“Built with Meaning” (10 mins)

In small groups:

 Read:

  • Genesis 1:26–31 (God creates humans and calls it “very good”)
  • Ephesians 2:10 – “We are God’s masterpiece…”

Discussion Questions:

  • What did you like about these verses?
  • Why do you think some people don’t feel like they’re a “masterpiece”?
  • How do we know we are built with meaning? What do these verses say?

SENSE How You Feel:

How does it feel to know God made the world?

  1. Paint: Imagine and paint your very own world. What would be in it? What would you leave out? What would be different about it?
  2. Build: use Lego or Minecraft building blocks to create your own world.
  3. Mould: make a world; using play dough or moulding clay.

SEEK God:

Say: Imagine you’re standing in the middle of an open-world game—and the Developer walks up to you. He looks you in the eye and says, ‘I made this world for you to explore—and I made you to know Me.’ What would you say back?

Let them reflect in silence or with journals.

Say: This week, try this: Look at the world around you like a game dev made it—on purpose. What do you notice? What might it say about the One who made it—or about you?

Next time, we will talk about why the world doesn’t feel perfect—like it’s glitched. Spoiler: the Bible has something to say about that too.
