Why Pray for China?
According to Operation World only 7.92% of the Chinese population are Christian. 83% of the Chinese people are unreached for Christ.
For many years China has had a ‘one child policy’. Parents were forced to only have one child – they were not allowed to have any more. As a result China is still suffering today. Many women are forced to stop having children or simply want to get rid of the children they don’t want. Parents also mostly want boys. This means that many children are abandoned or kidnapped or trafficked (taken away and used as slaves). As there are many boys growing up into men, but very few girls growing up into women in China, it seems that in some years there may be lots of lonely men with no wives. This may cause lots of problems for China in the future.
As families only have one child, those children are then often spoiled and pampered. This means that many people live selfishly and don’t care as much for others.
With few children to look after their parents, many people will grow old without anyone to look after them. This means that if nothing is done to help them, there will be lots of lonely, scared old people left abandoned over the years to come.
