‘iCare’ Emoji Childrens Teaching Series or VBS

AIM: The iCare series is all about helping children to see that it is important to not only care about our own

feelings, but the feelings of others. Emojis are a way we use to communicate our own feelings, but they also help us to understand the feelings of others.

SESSIONS:

LESSON 1: I CARE BECAUSE GOD CARES [HEART EYES (LOVE) EMOJI]

BIG IDEA: GOD CARES FOR ME

STORY: THE GOOD SAMARITAN

PASSAGE: LUKE 10:25-37

This session looks at the story of the Good Samaritan and how God created us to be caring people.  We think about and care for others because God cares about us. We are created to be caring, just as He is caring.

 

LESSON 2: I CARE ABOUT MY FRIENDS [CRYING (SAD) EMOJI]

BIG IDEA: FRIENDS CARE

STORY: JOB AND HIS FRIENDS

PASSAGE: JOB 1

This session is focussed on Job. Job’s friends start off showing care for their friend, but then things turn for the worst. They do not understand why he is suffering, but seem to accuse him rather than show him love, compassion or be sad for him.

 

LESSON 3: I CARE BY STANDING UP [ANGRY EMOJI]

BIG IDEA: I CAN STAND UP FOR OTHERS

STORY: JESUS CLEARS THE TEMPLE

PASSAGE: JOHN 2:13-22

This session looks at how Jesus turned the tables over when the people were caught making money and cheating people in the temple. In this session we will consider what the appropriate response is to getting angry.

 

LESSON 4: I CARE BY SPEAKING OUT [SCARED EMOJI]

BIG IDEA: I CARE BY SPEAKING OUT

STORY: THE CALL OF JEREMIAH

PASSAGE: JEREMIAH 1

When something isn’t right it’s sometimes best to speak out about it. But how do we do that? Sometimes it can feel scary, but it doesn’t have to. In this session children will look at how Jeremiah, otherwise known as the ‘Weeping Prophet’ spoke out and challenged those around him.

 

LESSON 5: I PRAY BECAUSE I CARE [PRAYING HANDS EMOJI]

BIG IDEA: I PRAY BECAUSE I CARE

STORY: JESUS AND THE MAN THROUGH THE ROOF

PASSAGE: LUKE 5:17-39

Children will learn that they can take their cares to Jesus in prayer through this fun session on the man that was lowered through the roof to Jesus.

 

LESSON 6: WE SHARE THE CARE [ENVELOPE EMOJI]

BIG IDEA: GOD CARES

STORY: NEHEMIAH HEARS ABOUT JERUSALEM

PASSAGE: NEHEMIAH 5:1-13

Ever wonder how some people achieve so many great things? Often it’s because they work together with others! In this session children will look at the story of Nehemiah and learn how he shared the care for the city with others.
